Our Volunteer Projects

Refugee School

Teach Refugee Children in Malaysia

While most refugee children would like to go to school, there is only one problem – their education expenses and needs are not met. According to UNHCR, the foremost refugee agency in Malaysia, there are over 11,000 displaced children of school going age yet less than 40% of them have access to any formal education. To fill this need, many communities and NGOs have set up their own education centers.

Volunteer as a Teacher

Come “voluntour" at our local refugee school which has about 60 students mostly from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Voluntourists help teach English, History, Geography, Mathematics and Physical Education. The school is open year round but closed on Malaysian school holidays.

Turtle Project

Turtle Nesting Grounds

Nearly all species of sea turtles are classified as endangered due to poaching, exploitation and habitat destruction. Luckily, many stretches of our beaches are nesting areas for turtles which allows volunteers to assist in their recovery almost year-round. At the Turtle Sanctuary, you will have a chance to see Green, Hawksbill and Oliver Ridley turtles in their native environment when they come ashore to lay their eggs in the sand.

Turtle Conservation

Volunteer your time helping these amazing creatures regain their lost ground by ensuring eggs are recovered and placed in the hatchery. In addition to the egg care, voluntourists can clean the beach, teach English to the village children and interact with the locals. On nights without a moon you will even be able to stay up late and watch the turtles nesting!

Teach Young Adults with Learning Disabilities

The transition to adulthood for young people with learning disabilities is difficult and not always entirely successful. Young adults with different learning abilities face a real struggle when planning for adult life. While they possess the ambition and potential, low expectations, employer discrimination and lack of opportunities denies them a successful transition into living independently. Voluntour your time to maximize the potential of young adults with different learning abilities by improving their competence, confidence and self-esteem. Equipping them with awareness increases their chances of living independently in the future and is the key to a seamless journey into adulthood.

Volunteer as a Teacher’s Aide

If you have the enthusiasm, openness, and interest in people, understand and speak English well, then this would be an amazing opportunity for you. As a teacher’s assistant, you will actively participate and assist the local staff to develop a variety of stimulating, fun and educational activities such as art, games, craft and music. As part of the social integration exercises, you will also have the opportunity to swim, bake and bowl with them.
